Stigma Of The Living Flesh

Wading into the themes of Yukio Mishima updated for the age of AI, New Ritual Press will release Kenan Meral’s debut novel Stigma of the Living Flesh on June 15th, 2026.

Updating the aesthetic obsessions of Yukio Mishima for the age of artificial intelligence, Stigma of the Living Flesh follows two adoptive brothers, William Margold and Danny Moritz, down an unnatural path culminating in the creation of a Deep Reality Simulation. Utilizing deepfake software, in conjunction with virtual reality technology, an obsessive Margold believes he can pave the way to new artistic frontiers by toying with the mind’s eye. Meanwhile, ghosts from the past and the future collide to haunt Mortiz’s present, as he tries to keep his brother’s project from going off the rails.
